About this object

This is a photograph taken at the unveiling of the Menzies Ferry War Memorial in December 1922. an occasion which was attended by 500 people. The memorial is made from a column of bluff granite which is surmounted by a statue of a New Zealand soldier carved from Carrara marble.

The following inscription is on the east side.

'Lest we Forget,
These Men gave their Lives in the Great War, 1914-1918'.

Of the 44 men who left the district only 27 returned, 17 having made the supreme sacrifice.
