Diary, Standard Time & Wages Book No 8

About this object

This wine coloured Standard Time & Wages Book, No 8 was presented to the district museum by Frank J. Williams Jnr. Both Frank Senior and Junior ran the Williams tailoring business in Wyndham. This wage book dates to the era when Frank Senior was in charge.

The first entry in the wages book is dated, '10th April 1915', and has the following name 'Dora McGaughan 16, Apprentice'. Dora worked for 22 hours for 2/6. (two shillings and sixpence).

Other people mentioned in the wages book are Miss G Stewart, Piece Work; F Williams; Self, Master; Miss Allison, Improver; J. McDonald, Piece Work.

On 7 April 1916 a suit cost £ 5 and 10 shillings and by the final page of the book a suit had increased to around £9 , and Dora's wages are now 6/6 for 40 hours.
