This archival card is a syllabus from 1887 for meetings of the Wyndham Mutual Improvement Association to be held on May 12, May 26, June 9, June 23, July 7, July 21 and August 4.
Some of these events included debates with interesting titles such as; 'Should the Franchise be extended to Women?': 'Married v. Single': 'Is the British Government responsible for the evils existent in Ireland?'
Mutual Improvement Societies were groups of people who met with an interest in adult education. Most were connected with and held at churches, and included readings of essays written by members, debates, lectures and entertainment.
At the time of this syllabus, in 1887, the Wyndham President was D. McKay, Vice-Presidents - I.W. Raymond and James Allan, Committee - R. Paull, Hon Secretary and Treasurer - W. M. Clark.
