Archives, Harry Allan Ledger

About this object

This ledger belonged to Henry (Harry) Charles Allan of Malton, Wyndham. It contains financial information, day-to-day operations on his properties (including Malton, Thistlebank and Oakleigh) and 'Chief Events' of each year beginning in 1904 through until Harry's death in 1918.

Included is information about Harry's branding tag, all his accounts with various stock firms etc., the estimated expenditures and income of his business including wages, annual valuations of Harry's farm and stock, and the cost of building construction and maintenance.

Interestingly in the 1904 'Chief Events' Harry has casually noted 'Aug 12 wedding at Glen Eden', referring to his marriage to Margaret Lindsay Dickie at his parent's home at Tuturau.

About Harry:

Harry died of influenza on 23 November 1918, aged 38. In our collection we have a photograph of Harry and his family taken 12 days beforehand at the Victory Day celebrations.
