Postcard, Balaclava Street Wyndham

About this object

In this postcard the prominent building on the left is the McKay's original store and their newly built, two-storied store. The store stocked drapery, mantles, millinery, fancy goods, china, footwear, ironmongery, and hardware. A toy shop was upstairs.

At this time the main street of Balaclava Street had many shops and businesses including a butcher, a bakery, a fancy bread and biscuit baker, dairies, fruiterers, tearooms, fish shops, drapers and banks.

The postcard is addressed to:
Mr. R.M.M. Fyfer
Freezing Worker
Tomoana
Hawkes Bay

and reads: 'What do you think of this P.C. Be sure & keep it. Hope to see you on Saturday night. Love from M & B'
