Archives, Machine Knitting ClubAbout this object
Archival records pertaining to Wyndham & Edendale Machine Knitting Club: machine and hand knitting patterns, brochures on knitting machines, wool and material swatches, articles on machine knitting, show programmes, correspondence, 1983 consumer magazine, financial statement.
The mother of one of the museum volunteers was a knitter for various wool companies. She regularly received by mail a parcel of wool and handwritten notes. She would knit the garment and make corrections to the pattern and send this and the knitted garment back to the wool company. The garment would then be photographed on a model and this would go on the outside of the leaflet pattern. As a child, our volunteer would love to go through the patterns in shops to see if she could spot the garments her mother had knitted.
