Boots, Land Army
About this object
These boots were worn by Mattie (Martha) McKay (nee Dunstan) when she was a land army girl during World War Two. At this time much of the manpower was lost in New Zealand and so women (known as land girls) were mobilised to work on farms to help support both New Zealand and the war effort.
Little is known of Mattie, other than she married late in life to William David McKay. She died in 2006 and is buried with her parents and sister in the Wyndham Cemetery.
