Nameplate, Edendale Post Office Strongroom
About this object
This is the brass door plate from the Edendale Post Office strongroom.
A post office separate from the railway was built at Edendale in 1911. Renovations to the post office building were completed in 1984. Unfortunately, in 1988 a government directive meant that the postal services were split into three divisions - Post Bank, Telecom and New Zealand Post. This resulted in the closure of the Edendale Post Office only four years after the renovation of the building.
