About this object

The Addiator is a mechanical adding and subtracting calculator, made by Addiator Gesellschaft, Berlin. It comprises sheet-metal sliders inside a metal framework, which are manipulated by a stylus. This Addiator can also handle negative numbers in the lower subtracting window.

Variants of the Addiator were manufactured from 1920 until 1982, when with the introduction of electronic calculators, which very quickly became much cheaper to manufacture and purchase, it became obsolete almost overnight.
