Name/Title

Water Flask, Aluminium

About this object

This is an aluminium 'Swan' water bottle or flask made by Bulpitt & Sons Ltd . In the 1920s, Bulpitts created electrical appliances including kettles and irons. They pioneered the first electric element that could be immersed in water. This was an important breakthrough because it meant that water could be boiled very quickly. They also developed and patented a unique safety cut-out for kettles, where the connector would be automatically disconnected if the element overheated.

In the early part of the 20th century there was a Swan branded item in virtually every British home.
