About this object

This is Sister Ella Stevenson's copy of 'The Nurse's Pronouncing Dictionary' which was published in 1925.

Nurse Stevenson was a Public Health Nurse who visited schools to inspect the health of children. She is remembered as a 'very good nurse', who had a stern exterior but 'a good heart'.

In 1968 Ella was awarded the Most Excellent Order of the Empire Medal (MBE) for Services to Nursing. We have many items in the collection relating to Ella, her family, work and this award, including the medal itself.
