Badge, WWI SweetheartAbout this object
This is a World War One sweetheart brooch. Sweetheart brooches are military badges with embellishments, or which have been modified to be worn as a brooch by a wife or girlfriend of a soldier serving in World War One. There are many variations of sweetheart brooches, with some having been made in the trenches using expended shell casings or other materials found in the trenches. This particular sweetheart brooch consists of a rifle and the 'Onward' badge of the New Zealand Expeditionary Force. The rifle has a pin on the reverse making it possible for the badge to be attached to clothing.Maker
