This is an enamel saucepan. Enamelling stopped the metal in the pan from leaving a taste in the food, and was popular in New Zealand from the 1930s through until the 1960s. Recently, enamelware has had a resurgence in New Zealand.

The saucepan is of the English Judge Ware brand which was marketed as ‘handsome, hygienic, heat retaining’.
