About this object

This is a War Medal 1939-45 which was awarded to Harold Genge. Harold served with the New Zealand army during World War Two. Before he enlisted he was a farmer and a lignite quarryman.

On his return from war, Harold Genge farmed on Coalpit Road where he remained for all his working life. The Genge family had nine children including triplets Harold, Ted and Herbie, and there were also a set of twin girls.

The War Medal 1939-45 was awarded across the British Commonwealth to all full time members of the Armed Forces for 28 days service between 3 September 1939 and 2 September 1945 irrespective of where they were serving.

This medal has a black and white ribbon on it when it should carry a red white and blue ribbon.
