Wedding Dress, Milne-Stewart 1958About this object
This is the wedding dress of Mary Margaret Stewart (nee Milne). Margaret married Frank Alister Stewart in 1958.
The dress is made from duchess satin and features tulle and applied lace at the neckline and over the skirt. A beautiful element of dress is the rouleau button loops down the back and at the sleeves.
After they married, the couple worked for Wattie and Kath Smith. Margaret helped in the house and Frank worked on the farm. They lived at Menzies Ferry, however, later moved to Wyndham and then Edendale.
Margaret played netball for Wyndham.
In 1962, the couple had their first child, Barry, and in 1964 Russell followed.
After working for the Smith family, Margaret then worked for McKay's store in the office. From there she went to J.G. Wards. After this, she was the librarian at Menzies College, and finished her career as the librarian of the Wyndham public library.
Margaret died in 2014 and is buried in the Wyndham Cemetery.
