This photograph is of Angus Baird (NZ391821), a local man who was killed during World War Two.

The son of Dr James Henderson and Millicent Baird. Angus was a bank officer in Taranaki. prior to enlistment. Flight Lieutenant Baird served with the Royal New Zealand Air Force 40 Squadron and was killed over in Germany on June 30, 1941, aged 25.

Angus is remembered on the Runnymede Memorial, Surrey, United Kingdom.

Angus' older brother, Stephen, was killed in an aircraft accident on January 17, 1944 while serving in the Pacific.
