About this object
This photograph is of Charles Hosie McKeown (438334), a local man who was killed during WWII.
Charlie was the son of Francis John William and Hannah Carpenter McKeown (nee McLaren). He grew up at Mataura Island, and prior to the war worked as a Cheese Maker.
Charlie served as a Signalman with the 2nd Division Signals. Charlie was killed in Italy on February 18, 1944, aged 21. He is buried in the Cassino War Cemetery, Italy, 1.13.12.
