Photograph, Opening of Wyndham Golf Pavilion 1959

About this object

This is a photograph of the opening of the Wyndham Golf Pavilion, which took place in 1959.

The golf club was informally started in Wyndham in 1911, with Dr Baird and Stanley Rice keen participants. In the early days the greens were fenced off to protect them from roaming cows and cow pats. The first clubhouse was opened in 1913, but a subsequent building was destroyed by fire in 1956. At the opening of this new pavilion in 1959 more than 100 golfers were present.
