About this object

A navy shirt used from 1926 to 1930 by a Sea Scout in the Calliope Sea Scout troop, of Devonport, Auckland. On the left breast side is a felt version Scout tenderfoot badge with 4 single green backed services stars above indicating 4 years in the Troop. On the right sleeve from bottom left going clockwise are Plumber, First Aid, Cyclist, Cook, Entertainer, Metal worker, Ambulance, Swimmer, Missioner, Electrician, Weatherman, Handyman and Engineer. On the left sleeve on the shoulder is a strip with the name Calliope embroidered, under which is the blue and white tassle of the Patrol colours. Badges on this sleeve in rows from top left, Ambulance, Kings Scout, Rigger, coast Watchman, First Class, Boatman, Oarsman, and Pilot. all these badges are of the unnamed on felt material type as was used in those days. the yellow chords over the shoulder are to indicate the Scout has earnt more than 12 proficiency badges. There are also 2 naval badges on the sleeves, their purpose in being on a sea Scout shirt is currently unknown.
