About this object

A silver and brass casket on a piece of greenstone mounted into a wooden base, was a gift to Robert Baden-Powell from the citizens of Auckland Province, New Zealand for his services to the Empire following his successful holding of the beseiged town of Mafeking during the South African Boer War. in 1951, Lady Baden-Powell presented the casket to the New Zealand Scouts and the item was brought back to NZ by the Scout contingent who had been in England enroute to and from the 7th World Jamboree in Austria. Casket is the work of James Prince, Manufacturing Jeweller of Queen St, Auckland
