A full colour supplement issued with the Weekly Press of 11 April 1900. The fine print along the bottom indicates a printer in New Brighton, a Linwood publisher, both on behalf of the Christchurch Press Co. Ltd. for their Weekly Press publication.
Baden-Powell was at that time a Colonel in command of a British garrison in the beseiged town of Mafeking, Cape Province, South Africa during the Boer War. This poster was issued prior to the relief of the town which shows that news from South Africa did get to New Zealand and that Baden-Powell's war exploits which made him the public figure that he used to form the Scout Movement were known not only in the UK but also here.
