About this object

Bottle; made from aqua glass, torpedo shape with a narrow cylindrical neck. The text 'ALEXANDRA' is moulded on one side of the body and 'THEYERS & BECK' on the other. This bottle has no flat edges.

Possibly a site find. Torpedo bottles have a rounded end to prevent them from being stood upright. This was so that the soda was kept in constant contact with the cork to prevent it from drying up and shrinking; if the cork shrunk the bottle would lose pressure. This bottle was manufactured by Theyers and Beck, Brewers, Alexandra in Central Otago.
