Book, Farm LedgerAbout this object
This is a farm ledger from the New Zealand Agricultural Company. The ledger details the Company's wage payments to employees for 1881-1882.
The New Zealand Agricultural Company played a significant role in the development of Eastern and Northern Southland. Following the expiry of large Government granted Pastoral leases the Company undertook the subdivision and sale of smaller farms across the Waimea Plains. This development included the creation of a private railway line from Gore to Lumsden, solidifying Gore's role as a rural service town. The line also enabled children to travel via train to Gore High School.
