Name/Title

Bag, oatmeal

About this object

Fleming & Co oatmeal bags turned inside out were ideal for wrapping tins of goods to send overseas to service personnel during World War Two. June McKenzie sent this bag to her brother John (Jack) who was serving as a cook in the Middle East. June worked at H & J Smith and has had all her workmates write personal messages to Jack on the outside of the bag.

While Jack returned home uninjured, June received serious head injuries when a plane, taking part in an Emergency Precautions Service exercise on June 11 1942, crashed in the Main Street of Gore.
