A tool used to brand stock on the Knapdale Run in the Mataura River Valley. The letters A M refer to the Knapdale Run owner Alexander McNab an early Southland Settler who took up the leasehold in 1855.The brand was heated and pressed briefly onto the farm's livestock leaving a permanent identifying mark.
