About this objectLate Cambrian (500 million years old) Trilobite Limestone from Cobb Valley, Northwest Nelson, South Island, New Zealand. All the small rounded bumps are pieces of trilobite exoskeletons. None are preserved whole in this limestone. They are the oldest known fossils in New Zealand and were found in 1948 by Malcolm Simpson, then a 15 year old school boy.
