About this object

Mark (Boy/Girl) is one of three portraits taken of Mark, an Australian drag performer, as he undergoes the transformation from a boy to a girl. The triptych is part of Rebecca Swan's series Assume Nothing, an exploration of gender diversity. “I think drag, and the whole camp culture is so big in Australia, because it’s very good at embodying that sense of good time as well as serious. People get so afraid of difference that they forget to see the same; that we’re all human beings. Humour cuts across that. To make people smile and laugh is twenty times more effective to open people up than confrontation.” - Mark
