About this object

Garth Chester, an Auckland-based designer, pioneered the use of bent plywood in New Zealand. His Curvesse Chair has become a New Zealand icon. Similar to the Curvesse Chair, this chair is a variation of one he designed for the Nicholson Chapel in Napier. He also took this design to Australia in the late 1940s.
