Stirrup Pump (Fire Extinguisher)About this object
A stirrup pump (or fire extinguisher) which has a red painted, metal drum with a monogram on one side 'Empire Fire Extinguisher'. Just above that, a white sticker reads 'serviced by Wormald Ph: 481-231 Whangarei. The words 'Post Office MWI' have been handwritten.
At the top of the device there is a carrying handle. There is an attachment with a pumping handle of black rubber hose. This is attached by a brass fitting. At the other end of the hose there is a brass nozzle. At the top, an oval lid can be opened for filling with water. A paper docket is tied to the handle, inscribed 'P.O.' Workshop.' There is an opening at the bottom for a foot to be inserted.
This device was the fire extinguisher Mangawhai Post Office. In very good condition.
