Working kauri logs out of the Tara. Samuel George Browne, known as George, b. 1875 d. 1922 in panama hat and wearing dark clothes is leaning on wheel. Ted Browne in cap (could be driver or 2nd from left) with Jack Yeoman and Mannie Shepherd.
George Browne and his partner Jonas Travers Smythe owned 2 steam traction engines each with 3 wagons.
The Browne family lived in the Te Hana area. George served the Main Body 1st Mounted Division in WW1 in Egypt, and was invalided home in 1917 after several malaria attacks.
George died in 1922 after a logging accident in a flooded river near Whakapara where he owned a sawmill and a contracting business.
