Reid and Torrie Wedding; 21-38
Reid and Torrie WeddingAbout this object
Raewyn Lou Reid married Neil John Torrie at Mangawhai on 14th December 1991.
The Reid family farmed at Wellsford.
Raewyn's dress was worn for the 3rd time as a wedding dress.
Her mother, Elva Reid commented
"When i announced my engagement just after the war, we still had clothing coupons and very limited material options. Laura Bennett nee Denton, who married Lloyd Bennett in Whangarei a few years before and lived near me, offered to sell her wedding dress so I paid a few pounds for it. A neighbour altered it slightly. I hired a veil from Auckland and wore it for my wedding.
My daughter, Raewyn Lou Reid married Neil John Torrie at Mangawhai on 14th December 1991 and wore my wedding dress for their wedding ceremony."
This dress was first purchased by Laura Bennett nee Denton of Whangarei, who married Lloyd Bennett at Port Albert on 1st June 1942. Laura had purchased her satin wedding gown 'off the rack' at Jacks Court in Whangarei.
Mangawhai Museum has photographs of the three brides wearing the same wedding dress in the Photograph Collection.
