The Ross family home was built by William Ross, known as Willie, b. 1864 d. 1932 in 1896 at Kaiwaka. He married in 1896 to Mary Sturch, known as May, b. 1874 d. 1932./
Their son Stanley Alexander Ross b. 1903 d. 1974 is astride the pony in the foreground. He is 13 years old.

May and Willie are standing by the front door with dog. They also fostered a boy, Charles Edward Sutherland from the age of 7-8.

This photograph is part of a large collection donated by Bev Ross which includes photographs, documents, books, research material and letters covering many families that were settlers in Mangawai and surrounding districts.
