About this object

Harold Benjamin Browne, known as HB, b. 1902 d. 1994, unloading kauri logs from Cullen's Bush, on the roadside at Pukekaroro Mill which was started up by Bert Williams c. 1934.
HB is using a 'timber dog' and is standing on the deck of the truck.
The mountain on the right of the photograph is called Pukekaroro.
The Pukekaroro Mill, not shown in the photo, was immediately below the logs. Much of the timber from these logs was sent to Auckland by rail from Kaiwaka and Wellsford railway stations.

This photograph was included in a large collection of Browne Family memorabilia, donated to Mangawhai Museum by Esma Torckler, nee Browne. Items include family trees, certificates, letters, memoirs, photographs, newpaper cuttings and emails.
