Norman Leaf

About this object

Norman Leaf is fixing a chain that is holding a log onto a kateraman or sledge. The kateraman is sitting on a 'skidded row' which allows the bullock team to haul the load more easily.
These logs were from Sterlings Bush and put into the river at Sterling Reserve, Matakohe, then rafted to West's Mill, Helensville.

This photograph was included in a large collection of Browne Family memorabilia, donated to Mangawhai Museum by Esma Torckler, nee Browne. Items include family trees, certificates, letters, memoirs, photographs, newpaper cuttings and emails.
Families mentioned include Browne, Yates, Pilkington, Brookes, Pook and Torckler.
