About this object
Portable writing desk; a varnished, rosewood writing desk, presented to James Christie by the Catlins Tahakopa Railway Sub-League, in appreciation of service rendered, October 1912.
The portable desk opens out to a sloped writing surface, covered with black leather. At the top of the slope are several small compartments for pens, ink and such, beneath which are three hidden drawers, covered with a spring-loaded board.
James Christie lived at Puketiro and became the first County Councillor in 1915, of Maclennan Riding in the Clutha County Council.
