Mr and Mrs Bowe were 2nd Class passengers on the ill-fated voyage of the 'SS Manuka' which foundered off Long Point on the Catlins coast on December 16, 1929. All passengers made it to shore.
The Bowe's wedding took place the day before the 'Manuka' sailed from Melbourne on December 11, 1929.
