About this object

Fossil; a large fossil of a shell, found on a ridge-top approximately 2km inland from the Nugget Point lighthouse at a height of about 200-300 metres above sea level. The ground had recently been disturbed by a digger.
The shell appears similar to that of a scallop, but is apparently from the Pleistocene epoch - 2.588 million to 12,000 years before present, covering the world's recent period of repeated glaciations.
