Genealogical document, The Catlins River Branch
About this object
'The Catlins River Branch', N E Junge's reminiscences of childhood as the son of a railway ganger on a new section of the Catlins River Branch Railway; an illustrative account of the development of the railway in relation to the timber industry, coastal shipping and the clearing of bush farms. A very clear picture is painted of the conditions at the time such as the difficulties of repairing the railway tracks after heavy rains had caused the clay to slip. Interesting facts are interspersed with stories of boyhood escapades and school days in the 1920s.
