About this object

Barometer; a hanging barometer combined with a thermometer. The circular face of the barometer is open in the centre so that the inner workings are visible, surrounding the opening is a printed card reading: 'Stormy Rain Change Fair Very Dry'. The face is covered with clear glass and surrounded with brass. Above the barometer is a thermometer, its measurements handwritten in black ink. Surrounding the two is an openwork carving of grape leaves.
