Horse-Drawn Grader

About this object

Horse-drawn grader, owned by the Matamata County Council and used for many years in the maintenance of over 500 miles of roads in the Matamata region. Originally designed to be used with a team of horses, it was adapted for use with a Fordson tractor. When not in work on the County's roads, the grader could be hired out by local farmers wanting to do earthmoving works on their properties.. This machine was restored by Council staff before being donated to the Firth Tower Museum in 1983 to mark the 75th Anniversary of the Matamata County
