About this object

George Moon was one of Raglan's Old Settlers. Originally from Cornwall, he came to Raglan from New Plymouth in 1842 with his brothers and parents.
George started a grocery business in Whaingaroa village (before the towns' name was changed to Raglan). He later built the first Harbour View Hotel in 1866. This first building burnt down in 1901 and was replaced by this one which burnt down in 1904. It was replaced in 1905 by the third and current building.
