About this object

Striped white Swiss cotton baby gown with self patterned fabric of alternate woven stripes with reef woven flowers and horizontal open work stripes. Plain white cotton bodice, with hand netted lace on neck and short sleeves and round hand netted insert on front of bodice over white with red dot patterned fabric. All sewing on bodice is done by hand, but three tucks and broderie anglaise edging round bottom of skirt are machined. No fastenings on back placket, but possibly had drawstring fastenings. This garment was made by donors mother Mrs Meredith Rowntree, Waikiekie (Ararua).
