Baby gown
About this objectWhite cotton long sleeve hand stitched gown. Round neck with lace trim (trim is slightly tatty). Cotton tape drawstring gathers neck edge and is the only fastening for the back placket. Body of garment is gathered to neck edge at back and to yoke in front. Yoke is made up of vertical alternating strips of machine made lace and broderie anglaise. yoke has a slight V front which is trimmed coral stitched band then trimmed with the same lace. Sleeve cap is gathered onto armhole. Sleeve is gathered onto a coral stitched band then trimmed with same lace. The skirt is gored from the armpit. Self ties are attached to either end of a broderie anglaise band sewn over the front waist, band is trimmed with coral stitch, ties and hem are plain. Handmade by the donors mother Mrs Rowntree, in Waikiekie (Ararua).
