About this object

1. Leather 'cartouche' bag-tin with leather flap. Silver metal bugle on front, metal rings on sides and stud on base, painted red inside. 2. Metal badge '4'. 3. Metal badge ' 6'. 4. Brass letter 'N' or 'Z'. This uniform was used as a 'prop' during Helioscope Lantern shows put on by donor's uncle Egbert Dowson pre 1900. Trooper Egbert John Dowson 3225 died of enteric fever in 1901 during the Boer War, he was in the 6th New Zealand Mounted Rifles, 16 Company, Auckland Section.
