About this object

Large metal NZ Rifle Volunteers cap badge pre 1900. Writing in centre with a wreath of leaves around it and a crown on top. Three hooks at back. This uniform was used as a 'prop' during Helioscope Lantern shows put on by donor's uncle Egbert Dowson pre 1900. Trooper Egbert John Dowson 3225 died of enteric fever in 1901 during the Boer War, he was in the 6th New Zealand Mounted Rifles, 16 Company, Auckland Section.
