About this object

Dark navy wool trouse with a red stripe down outer side of each leg, high waistband with 6 small metal buttons on band (for suspenders) and 4 metal fly buttons all stamped 'Best Ring Edge'. Cotton tape lines waistband, two calico side pockets. Used as a 'prop' by donors uncle Egbert Dowson who put on helioscopic lantern shows throughout Northland pre 1900. He died of enteric fever 9 February 1902 on board ship in Africa before coming home from the Boer War.
