Photograph of the Hemphill family 1941. Left to right; Fred, Jack, Jim, Ellen, Harry, Margaret, Frank, Mary Woodhouse, Ted. Fred and Harry are in military uniform. At this time Lt/Col. Harry Campbell Hemphill was appointed commander of the National Military Reserve at Kaeo, later becoming Zone commander at Kaitaia. After this he was called to Wellington to organise and later to take charge of the Maori War Effort Organisation, in which he received an O.B.E. for services in this.
