Family portrait photograph of the Morris family of Ararua when sons John and Henry were on final leave before going to war in 1916. Back Row L-R: Barbara, Rachel, Hester. Front seated: 24/1756 Rfm. John Morris, 24/1757 Rfm. Henry Morris, 38923 Pte. Thomas Manuell. John and Henry both served with the 9th Reinforcements, New Zealand Rifle Brigade, 2nd Battalion, F Company during WW1. Henry Morris was killed in action, on the 4th October 1917 at Ypres, Belgium. Thomas Manuell married Hester Morris and served with the 22nd reinforcements but died of spinal meningitis while training at Trentham in 1916.
