About this object

A personal letter from 24/805 L/Cpl. John Irving to his uncle. It was written in France, dated 17th October 1916, John was serving with the 2nd Battalion, Bombers, NZ Rifle Brigade. He mentions in the letter, how well the New Zealand soldiers fight, although they have lost quite a few men, including, William (Bill) Hedley(12/4190) of Tapuhi and Stanley Going (25/870) of Towai at Somme, France. John was killed in action himself at Ypres, Belgium, 12/10/1917 and is mentioned on the Kauri Timber Co. Roll of Honour board, 1984_16_1-2.
