About this object

Metal helmet called a Brodie or kettle hat to protect your head. Lined with leather and felt with a chin strap. This particular hat belonged to 27687 Major Joseph Gordon Coates MC and Bar who served with the 19th Reinforcements Auckland Infantry Regiment, A Company. Coates later became a prominent figure, Prime Minister 1925-1928 and was part of the War Cabinet where he died in office 1943.
